54 compounded over S.O.P breaches

KUALA LUMPUR: Failure to provide equipment to record visitors’ details topped the list for 54 violators of the Movement Control Order standard operating procedures (SOP) on Tuesday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in a statement yesterday, said all offenders had been compounded.

“The offences include failing to provide materials to record visitors’ details (21), not wearing face masks (17), travelling between states and districts without permission (six), engaging in activities at entertainm­ent centres (five), not practising physical distancing (three), violating quarantine order (one) and entering a Enhanced Movement Control Order area without permission (one),” he said.

“A total of 67,974 inspection­s were carried out yesterday (Tuesday), involving 4,613 supermarke­ts, 5,938 restaurant­s, 2,714 banks, 4,199 hawker stalls, 2,768 factories and 1,025 government offices.”

On the ongoing Op Benteng, he said, 18 illegal migrants were nabbed, with 11 land vehicles and a boat seized.

A total of 266 roadblocks were also mounted nationwide.

On sanitisati­on operations, Ismail Sabri said 70 operations were conducted on Tuesday involving 25 red, six orange, 12 zones and one green zones.

Since March 30, the government had conducted 19,395 sanitisati­on exercises in 150 zones.

Ismail Sabri added that 836 individual­s arrived at the country’s internatio­nal entry points on Tuesday and were ordered to undergo mandatory quarantine.

They were among 152,570 people who returned to Malaysia from abroad or were permitted to enter the country between July 24 last year until Tuesday.

They had been subsequent­ly placed under quarantine at 75 hotels and nine facilities.

Inspection­s by the Malaysian Constructi­on Industry Developmen­t Board (CIDB) enforcemen­t officers at 25 constructi­on sites on Tuesday found that 24 had adhered to the SOP, with one instructed to close.

“From April 20 to yesterday, CIDB conducted 16,322 checks at 9,236 constructi­on sites.”

Ismail Sabri added that the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry carried out checks on 11 daily essential items involving 550 retailers, 151 wholesaler­s, and 31 manufactur­ers on Tuesday.

“The ministry enforcemen­t staff also conducted 1,913 checks on SOP compliance. A total of 1,911 premises complied with the SOP and two premises were given advice.”

On mandatory screening of foreign workers, Ismail Sabri said out of 3,428 workers screened, only 11 tested positive.

“Cumulative­ly, the Human Resources Ministry informed that 64,425 foreign workers under 33,440 employers have been tested for Covid-19.

“From the number, 9,971 foreign workers tested positive for the virus, while results for 634,454 returned negative,” he said, adding that 1,534 clinics were involved in the screening programme.
