‘BEST VENUE TO PUT AN END TO SPECULATION’
Meeting will allow Zahid to explain talk of cooperation with PKR and other parties, says Annuar
THE 2020 Umno General Assembly this weekend will be the best platform for party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to put an end to all rumours and speculation on the supposed cooperation with PKR.
Former Barisan Nasional secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the president would have the best opportunity to do so in his policy speech.
“There have been speculation, questions and contradicting news reports (on the cooperation).
“Some say that the president has discussed it with PKR, some say there was a letter with signatures supporting (PKR president Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim.
“Anwar was also reported as saying that there were discussions, but not cooperation.
“PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said they were just normal meetings.”
Annuar, who is also federal territories minister, was speaking after attending the handing-over of house keys to owners of the Residensi Razakmas2 apartments, attended by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, here yesterday.
The 2020 Umno General Assembly will be held online this weekend after being postponed for a year due to Covid-19.
Umno information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan had on Thursday night expressed hope that the assembly this weekend would put an end to all questions regarding issues within the party and its ties with other political parties.
He also hoped that all problems which had surfaced in Umno would be cleared up, thus strengthening the party before the 15th General Election (GE15).
“This (putting an end to all questions) is very important to enable us to be really prepared to face the people (in GE15).
“Perhaps (there are) hot issues that will be touched on at the assembly, but I am confident because Umno is a party that has been around for a long time and has a lot of experience or institutional memory to handle such issues (at the assembly),” he said as a guest on Bernama TV’s Ruang Bicara programme.
He explained that preparations for the assembly were going on smoothly to ensure that it was held in compliance with standard operating procedures to curb the spread of Covid-19.
