WGC BUILDING RM100M WORLD GLOVES CITY IN KUANTAN
First phase comprising 10 production lines to come fully online by Q1 of next year
WORLD Gloves International Group City & Hub Development Sdn Bhd (WGC) will invest an initial RM100 million to build glove manufacturing and warehouse facilities in Kuantan.
Co-founder Datuk Seri Desmond Lim said the first phase of the “World Gloves City” development would kick off in June and be completed by year end.
“The first phase involves 10 production lines. The first two are slated to be completed by November, and the remaining operational by the first quarter of next year.”
Lim said WGC aimed to produce about 200,000 pieces of nitrile gloves per month with each production line.
He said it had secured orders from customers in Egypt and China, adding that its potential export markets included the United
States and the European Union.
“We are here to strengthen Malaysia’s standing as a leading glove and personal protective equipment producer in the world,” said WGC chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Gianluca Ernesti.
The project comprises nine phases, which will be completed by 2025. It will create a value chain ecosystem for the manufacturing of nitrile, latex, and
vinyl gloves for the export market.
Malaysia is the largest supplier of gloves globally, accounting for 60 per cent of total exports.
The World Gloves City project will also encompass the development of a digital and smart city.
Meanwhile, Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) and WGC yesterday signed a memorandum of agreement that makes the government
agency a technology partner to the project.
WGC also signed a leasing agreement with the Pahang State Development Corporation to kick off the development’s first phase.
“More than half of the area will be an industrial park — with 750 plants equipped with clean rooms, chemistry labs, packaging and warehousing,” said MARii CEO Datuk Madani Sahari.
