KUALA LUMPUR: Palestinian ambassador to Malaysia, the Maldives and Brunei, Walid Abu Ali, expressed gratitude to Puncak Niaga Holdings Berhad executive chairman Tan Sri Rozali Ismail for sponsoring 30 computer tablets for Palestinian schoolchildren aged seven to 15 years.

The sponsorship was made in collaboration with Yayasan MyAqsa (MyAqsa) at a luncheon hosted by Walid at the Hadramawt Kitchen Restaurant in Jalan Ampang recently.

“The tablets will help schoolchildren continue their education through online learning initiatives, after schools were closed due to the Movement Control Order. We are grateful to the Malaysian government and people for assisting our community in these troubled times.

“MyAqsa has often supported us in many welfare programmes,” said Walid.

Among those who benefited from the sponsorship were Amir Ramiowda, 13, and Yusof Hussam, 15, who spoke on behalf of the Palestinian schoolchildren.

“We express our heartfelt gratitude to those responsible for the gifts, and for enabling us to continue our studies uninterrupted,” said Amir, a Grade 8 pupil of the Jasiem Ashsham School in Ulu Kelang.

Yusof, who speaks fluent Bahasa Malaysia, has lived here his entire life.

“I am fortunate to be among those chosen to receive the tablet,” said the Grade 9 pupil of the School for Refugees run by the Sahabat Support Centre in Ampang.
