Campaign to collect 3 million used devices within 12 months
KUALA LUMPUR: The MyBaikHati campaign under the Strategic Programme to Empower the People and Economy (Pemerkasa) seeks to collect three million used devices within 12 months, said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Chairman Dr Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek said the initiative, which is run by the industry with MCMC, provided people with old but usable devices to access the Internet.
“It is a huge target, but we hope those who have old devices, which are usable and not in use, to donate them to the MyBaikHati campaign via participating service providers.
“These devices will be assessed and refurbished and taken to places like community Internet centres to be given to people,” he said on Bernama TV’s The Nation: Jendela programme yesterday. Participating companies are Celcom Axiata, Digi Telecommunications, Maxis, U Mobile, Telekom Malaysia Bhd and Time dotCom.
“For those who have old phones, notebooks or laptops, please donate them instead of throwing them away.”
He said the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela) had concluded its second quarter of phase one on March 31, and the quarterly report would be made available to the public on April 7.
“For the first quarter of phase one, we have done reasonably well. For the second quarter, service providers have been working to meet the target.
“We are moving into the third quarter and we hope our progress in this quarter will provide digital inclusion to all Malaysians.”
