Keningau district MCO extended to April 18
KUALA LUMPUR: The Movement Control Order (MCO) in Keningau district in Sabah has been extended for 14 days.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the MCO in the district, which should have been lifted today, would be extended to April 18.
“There are 2,138 Covid-19 cases in that district, with several villages under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).
“The Health Ministry has also confirmed that there is an emergence of new clusters and Covid19 cases are spiking in the community, with 148 cases reported in the past 14 days.
“After a risk assessment conducted with agencies in the MCO technical committee and on the advice of the Health Ministry, the government has agreed to extend the MCO in Keningau district starting April 5 to April 18,” he said yesterday.
Three locations in Sabah — Kampung Pagalungan Andip, Keningau, Kampung Kalindukan, Nabawan — and three residential colleges at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Kota Kinabalu, would be placed under the EMCO from today to April 18.
The UMS’ residential colleges are the KK Tun Mustapha, KK Tun Fuad and KK Tun Pengiran Ahmad Raffae.
“The Health Ministry screened 133 people in the locality and there are 19 cases.
“The ministry confirmed that infection is spreading among the residents of these three residential colleges, and there is a high infectivity rate.
“The EMCO will control the residents’ movements to prevent the virus from spreading out of the residential colleges.”
To date, 146 people had been tested in Kampung Pagalungan Ansip, Keningau, where 15 of them were confirmed positive for Covid-19.
“The EMCO will facilitate the ministry in conducting screenings to contain the virus in the community,” he said.
On the EMCO in Kampung Kalindukan, Nabawan, he said eight cases were recorded resulting from the screening of 99 people in the locality.
He said the EMCO in Taman Guru, Kuantan, which was scheduled to end on April 9, would be lifted today as the outbreak had been brought under control.
He said 89 cases were recorded in the location and 481 screenings had been conducted, but the situation was now manageable.
Meanwhile, 248 people were arrested for violating MCO standard operating procedures on Saturday.
“A total of 205 people arrested were engaging in activities at entertainment outlets, 17 (cases) were not practising physical distancing, 11 failed to scan QR codes using the MySejahtera app, eight engaged in interstate/interdistrict travel without permission, four were not wearing face masks and three had other violations.”
