‘55,000 high-risk teachers to be included in Phase 2’

SUNGAI BESAR: A total of 55,000 high-risk teachers are expected to be included under Phase Two of the National Covid-19 Immunisati­on Programme.

Deputy Education Minister II Muslimin Yahaya said he hoped vaccinatio­n would prevent the spread of Covid-19 and clusters in the education sector.

“Previously, four teachers in the high-risk category received the vaccine under Phase One.

“They were (inoculated) with Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin. Our focus now is to get 55,000 more teachers vaccinated in Phase Two,” he said after a Program Malaysia Prihatin briefing on current issues and Covid-19 awareness here yesterday.

He said teachers not slated to be vaccinated under Phase Two would be vaccinated under Phase Three or Four.

“Vaccinatin­g teachers ensures a safe environmen­t in schools. We hope all teachers will register to be vaccinated through MySejahter­a.”

A total of 360,971 individual­s have received both doses of vaccine under the first phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisati­on Programme up to Thursday.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, in a Bernama report, said 558,750 people had received only the first dose, bringing the total number of doses administer­ed to 919,721.

Based on an infographi­c he shared on Twitter, Selangor had the highest number of recipients of the first dose at 75,225, followed by Sarawak (57,466), Perak (52,548), Sabah (52,322) and Kuala Lumpur (51,100).

Selangor also had the highest number of people who have received both doses at 48,493, followed by Sabah (39,089), Perak (34,436), Kuala Lumpur (32,141) and Sarawak (29,873).

On vaccinatio­n registrati­on numbers, Dr Adham said it was at 8,309,480 up to Thursday, with Selangor the highest, at 2,237,971.
