SIME DARBY UNIT ACQUIRES MANIPAL HOSPITALS
Acquisition will allow company to unlock more value operationally, expand reach
RAMSAY Sime Darby Health Care has acquired Manipal Hospitals in Klang, from Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt Ltd. Ramsay Sime Darby group chief executive officer Raymond Chong said yesterday the deal would allow the company to unlock more value operationally by expanding the reach of its distinctive brand of award-winning healthcare.
Ramsay Sime Darby, equally owned by Sime Darby Bhd and Australia’s Ramsay Health Care, acquired the facility from Manipal Health’s wholly-owned Singapore subsidiary Manipal Health Enterprises International Pte Ltd.
The acquisition will see the rebranding of the 220-bed capacity hospital into a tertiary care private facility, which geographically complements Ramsay Sime
Darby’s other healthcare facilities.
“Not only will Manipal Hospitals be part of the company’s network of well-known hospitals, it will also be supported by the Subang Jaya Medical Centre as an integrated hub for referrals in the Klang Valley.
“There will be the additional benefit of Ramsay Sime Darby’s internationally-certified operational standards and extensive
human resources expertise,” said Chong.
With the acquisition, Ramsay Sime Darby now owns four hospitals in Malaysia, with the others being Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Ara Damansara Medical Centre and ParkCity Medical Centre.
Accredited with the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health, Manipal Hospitals has five operating theatres and 15 cardiology or
coronary care and intensive care unit beds.
Sime Darby group chief executive officer Datuk Jeffri Salim Davidson said the acquisition solidified its position in the healthcare sector.
“Sime Darby will continue to support Ramsay Sime Darby’s pursuit of viable organic and inorganic growth prospects to leverage the tremendous potential of this sector,” he added.
