Goalkeepers in the limelight

- Azharie

IT will likely be a battle of the goalkeepers when Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) host PJ City FC at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium today.

JDT goalkeeper Farizal Marlias and his PJ City counterpart, Kalamullah Al-Hafiz Mat Rowi have each recorded four clean sheets this season.

JDT are starting to regain their winning momentum while PJ City play today on the back of two draws.

PJ City coach P. Maniam wants his players to be fearless against JDT.

“JDT are a complete team with good local and foreign players. Most of the locals are national players.

“They have options while we will be depleted tomorrow as Khyril Muhymeen Zambri, Darren Lok and P. Rajes are unavailable, while captain K. Gurusamy is doubtful,” said Maniam yesterday.

“But I have fighters in my team. We fought hard to bounce back from 2-1 down to hold KL City on Wednesday.

“My players are committed and are giving 100 per cent in matches.

“They need to be confident tomorrow. I believe my all-local club will perform to their best ability.

“A collective effort will help us attain a good result.”

PJ City are fifth in the standing with 10 points while JDT lead on 17.

“We have to be brave and fearless against JDT. We also hope the referee will do a great job as well.”

Among the fringe players expected to play today are R. Kogileswaran, Syahmi Zamri, Salamon Raj and K. Thivandaran.

Khairil Anuar Zamri will return to the squad after serving a two-match suspension.

In other matches today, Selangor play Perak at the MBPJ Stadium while UiTM take on Melaka at the UiTM Stadium.

KL City host Sri Pahang at the KLFA Stadium in another Super League match.
