AS Muslims prepare for Ramadan, standard operating procedures are being put in place for tarawih prayers. Caution is advised as cases remain over 1,500 with an exponentia­l rise in Lahad Datu, and EMCO enforced in parts of Sabah and Sarawak.

KUALA LUMPUR: A two-week Movement Control Order (MCO) will be imposed on Lahad Datu, Sabah, beginning today until April 24.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this followed an “exponentia­l spike” in the number of Covid-19 cases in the district.

“The Health Ministry informed us that 103 positive cases were recorded in the district over two weeks, while the results from 49 samples are still pending.

“The ministry confirmed the cases have a high infectivit­y rate,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Another three localities in Sarawak and two communitie­s in Sabah will be placed under the Enhanced MCO (EMCO) from today until April 24.

In Sarawak, the EMCO is at nine longhouses — Rumah Panjang Subing anak Jabo/Stevenson anak Ebek, Rumah Panjang Dingun anak Tidih, Rumah Panjang Nyaun anak Ganai, Rumah Panjang anak Tangkun, Rumah Panjang Budin anak Majang/Migi anak Kadong, Rumah Panjang Kinseng anak Jelian, Rumah Panjang Muda anak Lunjang, Rumah Panjang Ambo anak Ayom and Rumah Jiram anak Tang in Sungai Duan; Mukah Polytechni­c and Kampung Menuang Baru, Limbang.

In Sabah, the EMCO is implemente­d at Kampung Muhibbah Raya, Tawau, and Kampung Bukit Belacon in the Segama subzone, Lahad Datu.

On SOP non-compliance, Ismail Sabri said 35 of the 78 people arrested by police on Friday failed to observe physical distancing, while 22 were caught crossing state/district without permission, not using the MySejahter­a applicatio­n (11), and not wearing face masks (10).

On Op Benteng, he said 49 illegal immigrants were held, and 13 vehicles were seized on Friday.

The authoritie­s detected 81 vessels in the country’s waters.

A total of 256 roadblocks were mounted nationwide on Friday.

He said the Fire and Rescue Department and local authoritie­s conducted 88 public sanitisati­on exercises in 20 red zones, eight orange zones, 13 yellow zones, and three green zones yesterday.

He said 1,300 returnees, who arrived at the country’s internatio­nal arrival points, were ordered to undergo the mandatory quarantine at designated centres nationwide.
