Police to take statements from Zahid, Anwar over audio clip
Recording being analysed to determine authenticity, says IGP
POLICE will record the statements of Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over an audio clip that was purportedly a recording of a conversation they had.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said police had opened investigation papers (IP) on the matter.
“The standard operating procedure is that when an IP is opened, a statement is recorded.
“When the time comes, the investigating officer will record their statements.
“If either Anwar or Zahid feels persecuted, they can lodge a police report so the police can investigate from that angle.”
He said this after the Taman Angkat Skuad Aman Wanita (Amanita) Selangor contingent launching ceremony in Bandar Puteri near here.
Hamid said the recording was being analysed at a forensic laboratory to determine its authenticity.
The results of the analysis, he added, would be submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
On Friday, Deputy IGP Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said police had received eight reports on the phone conversation.
On Wednesday, a four-minute video containing the audio clip of an alleged conversation between Zahid And Anwar went viral.
The video started with Zahid’s speech during the recent Umno annual general assembly, where he said the party would not accept Anwar, DAP and Bersatu as allies.
The video then cut to audio of a phone conversation between two men. Among the matters they discussed was the need to hold an emergency (Umno) Supreme Council meeting to outline an exit plan from the Perikatan Nasional government.
Zahid and Anwar have denied having a conversation with each other after the Umno assembly.
