NATION LOGS 1,510 COVID-19 INFECTIONS

Selangor tops the list with 415 cases, followed by Sarawak and Kelantan

THE country continues to log new Covid-19 cases in the thousands, with 1,510 infections yesterday. This brings the cumulative total to 359,117.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor topped the list at 415 cases, followed by Sarawak (296) and Kelantan (171).

Of the new cases, 1,505 were local infections, while five were imported involving a Malaysian and four foreigners.

“Eight deaths were reported today (yesterday), involving four in Sarawak, three in Selangor and one in Pahang. All deaths were Malaysians,” he said.

Up to yesterday, 194 people were undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit, with 81 needing ventilator support.

The ministry logged 1,248 recoveries yesterday, increasing the number to 342,737, or 95.4 per cent.

Three out of the nine new Covid-19 clusters reported yesterday were community-spread clusters in Selangor, Sarawak, Terengganu and Kelantan.

Cumulative­ly, the Kampung Kelanang (Kuala Langat, Selangor), Jalan Kapitan (Marudi, Sarawak), and Kampung Tanjung (Kuala Nerus and Dungun, Terengganu, and Pasir Puteh, Kelantan) clusters recorded 47 positive cases yesterday.

Dr Noor Hisham said the six remaining clusters were workplace clusters. These were in Selangor, Sarawak, Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur and Johor.

“These bring the total number of clusters to 1,451, with 343 active ones. Fifty-seven clusters reported an increase in cases today (yesterday).

“Clusters with the highest number of new cases are the Sungai Kluang Empat cluster with 30 cases, Rich Park cluster (28) and the Kampung Belaoh cluster (24).”

Up to yesterday, 1,108 clusters have ended, included eight that ended the same day.

These clusters are the Jalan Pria, Jalan Mega Cemerlang, Jalan Industri Dua, Tapak Bina Damar, Jalan Perusahaan Tiga, Rantau Tanjung, Jalan Cochrane, and Lembah Subang Constructi­on Site clusters.
