‘Umno sure MCA, MIC will stick with BN’
JOHOR BARU: Umno is confident MCA and MIC will remain loyal to Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 15th General Election.
Party vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said differences in opinion between component parties were normal and would not divide the coalition.
He said there was no indication MCA and MIC would desert Umno or BN
“When we lost the last general election, a lot of parties left us, but MCA and MIC remained. So the differences in opinion will not divide the component parties in BN.
“I am confident that MCA and MIC will remain with BN,” said Ismail Sabri after launching the Bangkit 15 programme here.
Present were Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Johor Umno deputy chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.
Umno announced at its recent general assembly that it would not cooperate with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in the next general election.
On another matter, Ismail Sabri acknowledged that there were differing views among Umno members on a purported recording of a conversation between Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said some members believed the clip was authentic, but urged them to let police investigate the matter.
“So, we hope police will conclude the investigation quickly. When the findings are out, I believe any speculation will be settled,” said Ismail Sabri.
On calls for Zahid to resign as president, he said members had a right to voice their opinion, but it was up to the leaders to reach a decision.
