Pas suspends GE15 seat talks with Umno, says Hadi

-

Pas has suspended seat allocation discussions for the 15th General Election (GE15) with Umno, saying that for now, it is negotiating only with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said negotiations with Umno would depend on the party making a clear decision on whether it would cooperate with Bersatu in Perikatan Nasional during GE15.

“There are Pas leaders who are carrying out the task (seat allocation talks) with Bersatu.

“With Umno, there used to be a committee, but Umno made changes mid-negotiations.

“As Umno now has issues, we will talk to Bersatu first,” he said after delivering his Friday lecture online.

Asked about Terengganu Umno chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Said saying the party wanted to go it alone in Terengganu in GE15, Hadi said Umno’s leadership had not decided on the matter.

The Marang member of parliament said Pas still called for Muslim unity as well as a diverse society to prevent factions and divisions.

“Muafakat Nasional is not just cooperation between Pas and Umno ... it includes Bersatu.

“That is the common policy and principle that we agreed on before, but the problem is that the Umno leadership does not seem to follow, but that is its right.

“However, I understand that not everyone in Umno is like that... so we want to unite Malays.

“Not only Pas and Umno Malays, but many non-governmental organisations, individuals, except those who are extreme... extreme Malays we reject,” he said.

Asked about an audio recording purportedly between Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Hadi said Pas was consistent with its stand in rejecting any new political alignment to form a government after GE15, especially those involving Pakatan Harapan and its allies.
