‘WHOLE NEW WORLD’ WITH R 1250 RT
NOTHING rivals the lure of the open road, a quietly humming engine between your legs, 80s rock music in your ears and 1,000km yet to be covered. In this scenario, even Gold Wing riders will grudgingly acknowledge a BMW RT’s mile-munching ability.
On an RT, with the drab gray tarmac whizzing serenely beneath its wheels, the rider is in complete touch with the motorcycle as opposed to just being carried along for the ride.
Now, an even better RT has been released, if that’s at all possible.
“We are pleased to welcome yet another addition to the BMW Motorrad family,” said BMW Group Malaysia managing director Harald Hoelzl.
“The BMW RT has always set the benchmark in this class and the new R 1250 RT will be no different, offering owners a new look, a comprehensive increase in standard equipment and numerous technical upgrades for a whole new riding experience.”
A newly-developed front fairing and new front windshield with optimised aerodynamics now encloses new full LED adaptive headlights with a swivel function that looks around corners for the rider at night. Turn signals and taillights are also LED.
It also comes complete with a host of standard equipment, including a luggage rack, storage compartments, centre stand, integral pannier cases in body colour and an adjustable windscreen.
Adjustable brake and clutch levers, along with heated grips, are also standard equipment.
The legendary shaft-driven and two-cylinder boxer 1,254cc engine delivers 100kW and 136hp at 7,750rpm and 143Nm of torque at 6,250rpm.
BMW ShiftCam technology with variable camshaft control for varying intake valve timing lift is carried over from its predecessor.
In terms of suspension, the Dynamic ESA “Next Generation” electronic suspension with fully automatic load compensation is all new. The Telelever front suspension combined with the rear Paralever is now revamped for higher ground clearance.
The dynamic traction control is still standard and a new standard “Eco” riding mode is added for the best possible fuel efficiency.
An addition to the three standard riding modes is the optional Riding Modes Pro package that offers the dynamic riding mode and dynamic engine brake control.
Now standard is the new BMW Motorrad Full Integral ABS Pro, a braking system in which both the front and rear brakes activate simultaneously upon application.
The optional hill start control function and active cruise control are available with the Dynamic Package, which is equipped with radar sensor technology.
The new R 1250 RT has a new multifunctional instrument cluster with 10.25-inch full-colour TFT screen, a multi-controller, Bluetooth functions and map navigation via the BMW Motorrad Connected App.
The new Audio System 2.0 also provides improved music entertainment on the road with the BMW Motorrad Communication System. The large display allows for a split screen configuration so that the rider is able to see all the information he needs at a glance.
The R 1250 RT is equipped with the Comfort and Dynamic packages as standard and they offer a range of features such as the gear shift assistant pro, keyless ride function, central locking system, seat heating, electric immobiliser with anti-theft alarm system, tyre pressure control, a 12V socket, and enhanced mobile smart phone connectivity with wireless charging capability.
The new R 1250 RT is now available at all authorised BMW Motorrad dealerships nationwide and the retail price (on the road, without insurance, and with BMW Motorrad Malaysia’s all-new three-year warranty and three-year roadside assistance programmes) is RM142,500.
