TRENDY, POWERFUL Y16ZR
HONG Leong Yamaha Motor recently unveiled the high-performance Yamaha Y16ZR — a new addition to its cub lineup — at the Sepang International Circuit North Track recently.
“The all-new Yamaha Y16ZR comes with a string of new special features and stays true to Yamaha’s DNA, which is synonymous to ‘Performance, Style and Innovation’,” said Hong Leong Industries Bhd group managing director Datuk Jim Khor at a test ride session.
The Y16ZR features a powerful liquid-cooled four-stroke, fourvalve, SOHC 155cc engine with variable valve actuation (VVA) and a six-speed gearbox that produces different ignition mapping for each gear.
The power unit is capable of 17.7hp at 9,500rpm and 14.4Nm of torque at 8,000rpm. It also comes with the assist and slipper clutch system that helps reduce the clutch level load, allowing the ease of gear-changing during downshifting.
The chassis, though lightweight, is strong and rigid. It features a new Y-shaped reinforcement collar and a 4.5mm thicker engine mount. The front two-pot caliper is all-new and squeezes a 245mm front disc.
A 5.4-litre fuel tank gives a maximum range of 256km, while a new separate-style, staggered slip-resistant seat is ergonomically shaped for comfort.
The LED high and low beam headlights provide a sporty look; the low beam headlamps are placed on the handlebar while the high beams are integrated onto the lower body with the position lights. The new taillight is narrower, longer and features an R-DNAstyled LED unit.
A negative-faced LCD multi-function digital instrument panel features the speedometer, tachometer, gear indicator, VVA indicator and the usual array of idiot lights.
A first-in-class smart key system also features a call back function to determine the bike’s position. It also comes \with an immobiliser as a theft deterrent while a new quick engine cut-off switch is made available and incorporated at the main switch panel for emergency use.
The first 5,000 purchasers of the Y16ZR will receive an exclusive Royal Selangor Y16ZR key pouch and can have their names or bike registration numbers engraved onto the pouch for free.
The all-new Yamaha Y16ZR is available in three trendy colours of Phantom Grey, Arrow Blue and Raging Yellow and is affordably priced at RM10,888 (excluding insurance and registration fees).
