Sultan Ismail Hospital gets Isoresus Chamber

- Report by Vincent D’Silva

The Sultan Ismail Hospital yesterday received the Isoresus Chamber that will be used to stabilise and resuscitate Covid-19 patients.

The hospital is said to be the first public health facility in the country to have the Isoresus Chamber. It is installed at the Emergency and Trauma Department.

Patients who are in stages 4 and 5 of a Covid-19 infection would be placed in the chamber, which has negative pressure and sealed doors. This prevents the virus which is highly contagious from spreading to others by air droplets,

The idea of a chamber was first mooted by Dr Ng Kim Fong, chairman of the Johor Doctors Association, a year ago when the incidence of Covid-19 was on the rise.

Dr Ng said if the patient’s condition was expected to deteriorate, the individual would be incubated to protect his airways. The incubation would be done in the isolation chamber.

“This isolation chamber is to isolate a Covid-19 patient who is in stages 4 and 5. In the chamber, the virus can be contained from spreading to other patients who visit the same facility.”

The unveiling of the chamber was done by the Health Ministry’s Medical Development Division director, Dr Ahmad Razid Salleh.

Dr Razid said the chamber had great significance as it would help frontliners face the Covid-19 pandemic better.

“The fight against Covid-19 must be from all sectors, not only doctors, nurses but the private sector too.

“I’m impressed and delighted to see private establishments coming forward to help us.”

The Isoresus Chamber was donated by Joncan Composites Sdn Bhd.
