PAS is confident that a majority of Malay voters in Kelantan will reject a DAP candidate if one is nominated from the state to contest the 15th General Election (GE15).

State Pas liaison secretary Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi said the party also believed that Muslims in Kelantan would not allow the party to take root in the state.

“Kelantan Pas is confident that Malays here will reject DAP candidates, and other party members and leaders.

“The locals will not allow DAP to extend its influence here,” he said in a statement.

“As a democratic country, we cannot stop DAP from contesting in Kelantan, but we can prevent them from achieving victory by rejecting their candidates,” he added.

Che Abdullah said Pas believed that Kelantan Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) was also in cahoots with DAP by helping it to make inroads into the state, as well as position its candidates in Kelantan to contest GE15.

“This could be seen from Amanah’s assistance to DAP in the opening of the party’s new branches in Kelantan in recent years, to the extent that DAP can organise its first party’s convention here yesterday (Saturday),” he said.

Che Abdullah was commenting on a recent report that said DAP was planning to contest in Kelantan in GE15.

In Sik, Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the party would not disclose details involving the seat distribution strategy adopted by Perikatan Nasional (PN) parties in facing GE15.

“It is still too early for this, as the current Dewan Rakyat term will expire only in 2023.

“However, the matter will be discussed only at the party level and I am not in a position to talk about that. Every party that enters the election has its own plan.

“Pas has its strategy but we cannot tell people. If we tell, it is no longer a strategy,” he said.

Takiyuddin said this after the Malaysia Prihatin Programme at Dewan Gemilang, here, yesterday.

On Saturday Terengganu Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman Datuk Razali Idris was reported to have said that PN would use the faraid method for the distribution of parliamentary seats in GE15.

This means that the oldest party will get the most seats, which means Pas will get the highest number of seats to contest in GE15 compared with other parties in PN.

Faraid is a concept in Islamic law that determines the manner and order of distribution of property.

Takiyuddin said so far, the discussion on the distribution of seats involving Pas and Bersatu, as well as other PN parties, was in the first phase which, apart from touching on seat distribution, was also studying changes involving election candidates.
