King: Prioritise efforts to curb Covid-19

- KUALA LUMPUR Bernama

YANG di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin AlMustafa Billah Shah has urged that priority be given to efforts to fight the Covid-19 pandemic and affirmative actions for economic recovery during the Emergency period until Aug 1.

He said these included government initiatives such as the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

The king also gave his assurance that the country’s system of parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy that upholds the supremacy of the Federal Constitution will be preserved.

Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said Al-Sultan Abdullah was of the view that a strong government is a prerequisite for political stability, boosting the economy and sustainable development of the country.

“While the country and people are still grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic, political stability is vital to attract foreign and domestic investors to stimulate the country’s economic recovery,” the king was quoted as saying in a statement issued by Istana Negara yesterday

Ahmad Fadil said the king also advised politicians to work together in combating the pandemic for the safety of the people and prosperity of the country.

“His Majesty also advised them to focus on fulfilling their responsibilities and trust in helping the people impacted by the pandemic regardless of political beliefs.

“Politicians should be role models to the people with regard to unity and good governance. Let the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan be a good start to improving the country’s political landscape to one that is cleaner, more civil and with more integrity.”

Al-Sultan Abdullah also decreed for Muslims in the country to seek the blessings of Ramadan to further strengthen their taqwa (faith), as well as increase their religious activities and good deeds.

“His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Her Majesty the Raja Permaisuri Agong wish Muslims in the country Happy Ramadan Al-Mubarak, and may the month be celebrated with humility and gratitude for the tests and blessings that Allah SWT has bestowed on us,” he said.

Ahmad Fadil said the king also decreed that all events to be held during Ramadan should be in compliance with the standard operating procedures and regulations set by the government.

“His Majesty also called on all Muslims to take the blessings of Ramadan to pray that Malaysia continues to be protected and blessed, and that the Covid-19 epidemic can be curbed and will end soon.”
