VOLVO GAINS IIHS RECOGNITION
VOLVO Cars has achieved the Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+) rating from the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for its entire product range - the only brand to do so - with the fully electric XC40 Recharge being the latest addition.
“Irregardless of the body style, engine or trim, every Volvo vehicle offers innovative protection during a crash,” said Volvo Car USA president and chief executive officer Anders Gustafsson.
“We are proud that IIHS has recognised this by awarding a TSP+ to every model we produce today. No other company has been awarded this honour across all car lines.”
Volvo said the recognition was due to its focus on safety systems, including forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking as well as advanced pedestrian- and cyclistcollision prevention.
Its vision of how no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car has pushed the company to consistently innovate new safety features, including the introduction of a speed cap in new cars, run-off road protection, and a new suite of safety sensors debuting in the XC40 Recharge.
The XC40 Recharge is the first fully electric small sport utility vehicle to earn the award, adding to Volvo’s record set last month for the most single-year TSP+ awards earned by any carmaker since TSP+ honours began in 2013 - a total of 15 so far this year.
Volvo’s S60, S60 Recharge, V60, V60 Recharge, XC40, XC60, XC60 Recharge, XC90, and XC90 Recharge earned the TSP+ award in February, while the S90, S90 Recharge, V90, V90 Cross Country (vehicles produced after September last year), and V60 Cross Country earned the recognition in March.
The IIHS awards TSP+ status to vehicles that provide the highest level of safety.
