INDONESIA has begun doorto-door Covid-19 vaccinations, starting with a target of 19,000 people in 14 provinces nationwide. The rollout on Wednesday was witnessed by President Joko Widodo, who said the programme would be good for the national inoculation drive, Antara News agency reported.
“We (will) come to (the homes of ) those willing to get vaccinated soon. Once again, door-to-door vaccination is very good,” he said virtually.
“We thank the neighborhood association chiefs for encouraging residents to get vaccinated,” added Joko, who is popularly known as Jokowi.
“Today (Wednesday), 49,000 people will get vaccinated. They comprise 15,000 junior high school students, 15,000 senior high school students, and also 19,000 people through the doorto-door vaccination drive,” Joko said.
The vaccinations will be done at 32 locations in 15 districts and cities within 14 provinces in the country.
State Intelligence Agency Deputy I Major-General Agus Yusni said its medical workers would serve as vaccinators in the drive.
“We come to each of the houses to see residents willing to get vaccinations. In Neighborhood Association 06, some 400 residents were willing to get vaccinated — 200 who have been vaccinated and 200 more who will be soon,” he added.
