Jakarta aims to administer 19,000 jabs on first day of door-to-door programme

INDONESIA has begun doorto-door Covid-19 vaccinatio­ns, starting with a target of 19,000 people in 14 provinces nationwide. The rollout on Wednesday was witnessed by President Joko Widodo, who said the programme would be good for the national inoculatio­n drive, Antara News agency reported.

“We (will) come to (the homes of ) those willing to get vaccinated soon. Once again, door-to-door vaccinatio­n is very good,” he said virtually.

“We thank the neighborho­od associatio­n chiefs for encouragin­g residents to get vaccinated,” added Joko, who is popularly known as Jokowi.

“Today (Wednesday), 49,000 people will get vaccinated. They comprise 15,000 junior high school students, 15,000 senior high school students, and also 19,000 people through the doorto-door vaccinatio­n drive,” Joko said.

The vaccinatio­ns will be done at 32 locations in 15 districts and cities within 14 provinces in the country.

State Intelligen­ce Agency Deputy I Major-General Agus Yusni said its medical workers would serve as vaccinator­s in the drive.

“We come to each of the houses to see residents willing to get vaccinatio­ns. In Neighborho­od Associatio­n 06, some 400 residents were willing to get vaccinated — 200 who have been vaccinated and 200 more who will be soon,” he added.

With Indonesia’s second Covid19 wave affecting a significan­t number of children, the government has started vaccinatio­ns for those aged 12 to 17.
