CELCOM, HUAWEI TIE UP TO BOOST NETWORK SPEED
Large-scale commercial FDD Smart 8T8R network launch is a world’s first
CELCOM Axiata Sdn Bhd (Celcom) and Huawei Technologies Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) have deployed the world’s first large-scale commercial FDD Smart 8T8R network in response to the rapid growth of data traffic and network congestion in major cities in Malaysia.
This ensures that Celcom’s 4G network provides a seamless experience for customers as the company transitions to fifth-generation (5G) mobile technology, said the telecommunication company yesterday.
Celcom chief operating officer (technology) Afizulazha Abdullah said the company was relentless in optimising its network coverage, capacity and resiliency by bringing the latest radio access network technology to the most-needed areas.
“We are mitigating the impact of data traffic surge and network congestion by utilising Smart 8T8R technology and, thus, deliver an improved consistent network experience.
“Celcom’s ongoing accelerated network investments are also aligned with the government’s
Jalinan Digital Negara aspiration.
“We will continue collaborating with Huawei to innovate and implement technical breakthroughs,” said Afizulazha yesterday.
Celcom’s investments of more than RM250 million have resulted in a preliminary reduction of network traffic congestion and delivery of consistent network services since December last year.
The upgraded 8T8R sites will support existing 4T4R sites in rural and urban areas.
Celcom plans to upgrade more 4G sites nationwide with 8T8R technology.
Huawei Malaysia vice-president Zac Chow said as a global information, communication and technology leader, it was honoured to share its resources and expertise with Celcom for this project.
“We believe that this is an innovative
solution that will help Celcom maximise its spectrum efficiency and enable a seamless experience for customers while paving the way for 5G technology when the time comes.
“This work supports Malaysia’s digital economy journey. As the country moves further into the digital era and as its digital economy grows, it is our privilege to help ensure that everyone is connected and that no one is left behind.”
