Areas in four states under EMCO

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Several areas in Sabah, Sarawak, Negri Sembilan and Pahang will be placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) for two weeks starting tomorrow following a spike in Covid-19 infections.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the EMCO would be until Aug 1.

In Sabah alone, four areas have been identified for EMCO enforcement. They are Apartment Seri Maju in Kota Kinabalu, Kampung Tinusa 2 in Sandakan and two more in Tawau — QL Farm Breeder in Jalan Stesen TV and Onika Kuari workers’ quarters.

“Four localities in Rembau, Negri Sembilan, will also be placed under the EMCO. They are Taman Chembong Utama, Taman Chembong Jaya and Taman Setia Raja in Mukim Chembong, and Taman KSNS in Mukim Pedas.

“In Pahang, the EMCO will be enforced in Pos Iskandar in Bera and Kuala Medang in Lipis,” he said yesterday.

Kampung Garung and Kampung Pasir Hilir in Kuching, Sarawak, would also be placed under the two-week EMCO, he said.

Ismail Sabri said the EMCO in several zones in Kedah, Sabah and Kelantan would be extended after taking into account the trend in cases there.

The areas affected are Taman Bandar Baru Sungai Lalang, Taman Lembah Permai and Bakar Arang Industrial Zone (including Taman Cahaya PKNK) in Kedah; Taman Zifa, Bingkul, Beaufort, Kampung Simpangan and Kota Marudu in Sabah, and Kampung Bukit Tanah, Mukim Bukit Jawa and Pasir Puteh in Kelantan.

“The EMCO will be extended until Aug 1,” he said.

More than 60 premises involving factories, business premises and construction sites have been ordered to close for flouting the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP).

Ismail Sabri said 2,239 factories, 14,551 business premises, 793 construction sites and 293 workers’ hostels were inspected on Friday and compound notices were issued to 64 of these premises.

He said stern action would be taken against those who breached the SOP.

“The government will not compromise with repeat offenders

and will not hesitate to close their premises and factories immediately.

“Workers are reminded to report to the authorities if employers are operating without permission, or do not provide a workplace that complies with the SOP.”

On SOP violation, he said 433 people were arrested, 408 fined and 25 others remanded on Friday.

He also said 39 undocumented immigrants were detained and four land vehicles seized.

He added that 890 roadblocks were mounted nationwide on Friday.

A total of 990 individuals returned to the country on Friday and were placed at quarantine centres.

Ismail Sabri said 210 Covid-19 disinfection exercises were carried out on Friday, involving 72 red, two orange and six yellow zones.

Following checks by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry on SOP compliance at 1,843 premises, six were slapped with compounds.

“We screened 40 foreign workers yesterday and four of them tested positive for Covid-19.

“To date, 701,039 foreign workers have been screened and 10,419 tested positive for the virus.”
