KUALA LUMPUR: Former Berita Harian assistant chief sub-editor Foziah Taib died of Covid-19 early yesterday.

Foziah, 53, died at Serdang Hospital near here at 12.48am.

Her eldest child, Shahirah Sharoman, 28, told Berita Harian that she died from complications stemming from the virus.

Shahirah said her mother was buried at a Muslim cemetery in Kampung Sungai Purun, Semenyih, yesterday.

“I received a call from the hospital at midnight that my mother died after suffering from (Covid-19 pneumonia) Category Four symptoms.

“She was rushed to the emergency unit after her oxygen level dropped below average. She had complained of having body aches and pains,” said Shahirah.

She and her four siblings had tested positive for Covid-19.

“My father is a Covid-19 patient and was hospitalised but discharged on July 11,” she said.

She said her family took the Covid-19 swab tests on June 30 after being in close contact with positive cases.

Initially, only her father tested positive for the virus.

“However, my mother and my younger siblings went to the district health clinic to be issued a wristband (to undergo home quarantine).

“We were advised to take a second swab test.

“After two days of waiting for the results for my mother, on July 4, my four younger siblings were confirmed positive.

“Even my youngest sibling, who is 4, tested positive.

“We developed symptoms, such as fever, cough and flu.”
