Gavin getting into the swing of things
GOLFER Gavin Green badly needs a morale-boosting display to regain his confidence following his erratic European Tour season.
And he will get a chance to do so at the Tokyo Olympics later this month.
He, however, must first work on his swing ahead of the Games.
The 28-year-old will start his four-day Olympic campaign at the Kasumigaseki Country Club in Saitama on July 29.
Gavin has played in 14 European Tour competitions this year, and his best came in the
Kenya Open in
March, where he finished 41st with a four-day
276 to earn €5,760 (RM28,600).
In his most recent event, Gavin failed to make the cut in the Scottish Open after rounds of 72 and 75.
“I am working on my swing under coach Chris O’Connell. He is also helping me make changes to my game.
“Although results have not been good, I feel that I am moving into the right direction.
“Golf is a funny sport... everything changes when you are confident.
“I am working long hours to improve my swing. Hopefully, it clicks during the Olympics,” said Gavin.
Gavin hopes his experience at the 2016 Rio Games (finished 47th) will help him do better in his second Olympic outing.
“There are a lot of good players out there, so I just need to focus on my own game and hope for the best when the event begins in Saitama,” he added.
LPGA Tour’s Kelly Tan will represent Malaysia in the women’s event.
In Rio, Malaysia were represented by Gavin, Danny Chia, Kelly and Michelle Koh.
