Khairulnizam gets hi-tech suit from UiTM

- Fadhli Ishak

SAILOR Khairulnizam Afendy has received his high-tech sailing apparel from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) for the Tokyo Games.

However, it is up to the 28-year-old whether he wants to use it during the laser radial event at the Enoshima Yacht Harbour in Fujisawa.

The bespoke sailing suit, developed by UiTM, was handed to Khairulnizam before he left for Tokyo last week.

UiTM sports director Mustaza Ahmad said Khairulnizam has the final version of the two-piece suit with him in Tokyo.

“Khairulnizam came to do a body scan for the apparel dimensions, and we delivered two sets of the final version before he left for Japan,” said Mustaza.

“If he feels comfortable with the suit, he can use it for the Olympic competition.

“But if he does not feel comfortable, he does not have to use it.However, Mustaza said they

“It is entirely up to him.” did not provide fellow sailor Juni Karimah Noor Jamali a finalised version of the apparel.

"She was not able to do a body scan in the run-up to the Games.

“We only had her normal measurements. So, we could not produce a version of the suit for her,” added Mustaza.

The apparel is made of custom duel-effect

polyester spandex that is suitable for both hot and cold climates.

Khairulnizam had earlier this year stressed the importance of using a waterproof apparel that could fit perfectly and regulate body temperature on top of providing cushioning.

Khairulnizam and Juni who are UiTM students, were based at the National Sailing Centre in Langkawi before they left for Tokyo last week.
