New Unity Internet plan for B40 launched
KUALA LUMPUR: The government yesterday launched the Pakej Perpaduan fixed-line Internet broadband service for households in the Bottom 40 (B40) group, people with disabilities and the elderly.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the package, priced at RM69 per month, would provide Internet speeds of up to 30Mbps with unlimited data. The package would be available beginning next month.
He said Pakej Perpaduan was aimed at helping the lower-income group to enjoy cheap fixed Internet broadband service.
The package would come with a 24-month subscription contract.
“In line with the unity government’s commitment to lower the cost of living, the ministry has introduced this Perpaduan (unity) fixed Internet broadband package targeted at helping the B40 group, veterans, the disabled and the elderly at a lower price.
“The price of this package is 22 per cent lower than the existing packages, which is RM89 for the same speed. Subscribers of the Pakej Perpaduan will enjoy RM480 in savings throughout the contract period,” he said.
Fahmi said the Pakej Perpaduan was a collaboration with Telekom Malaysia (TM), Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U Mobile, YTL, TIME Bhd and Astro.
“This initiative is not only in line with the government’s promise to lower the cost of living, mainly among B40 and targeted groups.”
He said the initiative was proof that the unity government and service providers were truly paying attention to the needs and welfare of the people.
He said the government is striving to ensure more comprehensive digital connectivity, which is provided at lower prices in line with the concept of Malaysia Madani.
Last month, Fahmi had announced that the government would be introducing the fixedline Internet unity package specifically for the B40 group.
He had said that the Communications and Digital Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek had been directed to hold negotiations with the relevant parties concerning the package.
