5 held over fatal attack in Semenyih

-

Police have arrested five suspects over an attack that resulted in the death of a 42year-old car driver in Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2 on Tuesday night.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan said officers from the district Criminal Investigation Department arrested the five early yesterday at two separate locations in Beranang and Semenyih.

“Police have obtained a fiveday remand order until Feb 25 against the five to facilitate investigations,” he said, adding that the suspects, aged between 22 and 52, were produced in court yesterday morning.

Zaid also urged eyewitnesses to come forward.

He, however, refused to confirm that the motorcyclist, who was involved in the car crash with the victim before the situation escalated in the 9.20pm incident, is a p-hailing rider.

“We have not received any reports about the alleged first crash between the driver and a motorcyclist. We are still investigating this claim,” he said.

Earlier, a video clip containing a message was seen circulating on social media, alleging that the car driver had crashed into a delivery rider and refused to stop.

The video message claimed that the two had been involved in a crash at a traffic light in Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2 (TPS 2), and several motorcyclists gave chase towards Oakberry, TPS 2 when the car driver did not stop.

When the driver crashed into a house fence, the group of motorcyclists dragged him, tied him up and beat him to death, the video message said.

Zaid said the motive of the attack had yet to be confirmed as investigations were still at an early stage.

“Anyone with information may contact ASP Redzuan Mat Salleh from CID at 013-785 4100 or Inspector Ammar Tahir from the district traffic investigation department at 018-219 4013.”

He added that the victim’s body was sent to Serdang Hospital for a post-mortem.
