‘They had no right to tie up, hit and murder my brother’

-

The elder brother of Shahril Samad, the victim who was tied up and allegedly beaten to death, said the accused had no right to take away his life despite his past.

Bursting into tears at the Bandar Baru Bangi magistrate’s court after the five accused were charged with murder, Shah Rizad Samad, 43, said Shahril had no way to defend himself at the time of incident.

Shahril, who was self-employed, was allegedly killed following a traffic incident.

A video of him being beaten and tied up by a group of food delivery riders at Taman Pelangi Semenyih 2 was widely circulated online.

“Let the (traffic) police settle the case. Those who hit him had no right to do so. You’ve tied him then you hit him.

“They tied his hand behind his body, how was he supposed to defend himself?

“They should’ve given him to the police after tying him up,” he said when met by reporters after the court proceedings, here yesterday.

Shah Rizad, who was accompanied by younger brother Shazwan, 27, to witness the court proceedings yesterday said he was satisfied that he could finally see all five of the accused.

He said this was the first time they were allowed to do so.

“It is true that I am angry and satisfied to see them the (accused) today.

“As a family, we have been eager to see their faces for quite some time. Today we can see them, and perhaps justice will be served for my late brother,” he said, adding that their parents did not have the heart to attend the proceedings.

Shah Rizad said he would personally attend all court proceedings to see justice being served for his late brother.

Shah Rizad said he was the closest to Shahril, who was the second of seven siblings.

“He was a reserved person. He is very special. He had never laid his hands on any of us despite his past.

“He never made an enemy of the family and never did us wrong,” he said.

Shah Rizad has demanded justice for his brother and did not discount appointing a watching brief to attend the proceedings.

“This is the first step (being charged). We will attend every court proceeding.”

Earlier yesterday, five food delivery riders were jointly charged with the murder Shahril on Feb 20.
