AirAsia X eyeing new destinations in Europe, Africa, US

-

AirAsia X Bhd is exploring the potential of adding multiple medium-to-long haul destinations, including Europe, Africa, and the United States.

The low-cost carrier is introducing longer-range and more efficient aircraft into its fleet this year.

Of particular significance were the eagerly awaited A330neo and A321XLR, both poised to revolutionise the carrier’s capabilities and elevate passenger experiences, it said in a statement.

The airline is confident in

sustaining its growth trajectory and ensuring continued profitability.

For the fiscal year ended Dec 31, 2023, AirAsia X has a fleet of 18 aircraft, of which 16 are operational.

Chief executive officer Benyamin Ismail said the carrier anticipated the final two aircraft to rejoin operations by the first half of the year, thereby maximising its operational capacity.

This strategic move is aligned with the carrier’s goal of relaunching key profitable markets.

The airline previously announced plans to launch its maiden flight to Kazakhstan, specifically to Almaty, this month.

This expansion is anticipated to unlock further opportunities for the group, enhancing connectivity and synergies within the FlyThru network.

AirAsia X reported a decline in fullyear net profit to RM366.5 million from RM33.14 billion the previous year.

However, revenue rose to RM2.53 billion from RM659.59 million previously.

For the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2023, AirAsia X recorded a net profit of RM27.4 million compared to RM153.5 million in the same period the previous year.
