Not being computer savvy, negative perception hamper Padu sign-up

-

of the key achievements of the unity government is its initiative in setting up a central database hub (Padu) that streamlines the framework of collecting data on the profile of citizens for channelling government aid to the public.

This would help consolidate disparate information concerning the public.

The formation of Padu is a significant step to help Malaysians who are in need of aid instead of the current system where the rich also benefit. The petrol subsidy is one example.

Currently, with a deadline given until March 31, representatives of parliamentary and state constituencies are embarking on getting as many people to register on Padu, with the help of officials, and one of those constituencies is in Ipoh Barat, where I reside.

Looking at the crowd, I wondered why there was a last-minute attempt to register when the government had announced a certain expiry period for registration.

As I observe the crowd here, some have no computer literacy.

Many are from the elderly category who might have difficulty understanding the requirements mentioned in the system.

Some admitted reluctance to participate because they heard negative feedback on the purpose of Padu and only realised now that it is critical to register.

Observing the crowd rushing for physical registration, I feel that it is only appropriate that the government extend the deadline.

This is to cater to those who have yet to be informed on the merits of registering, so that the actual objective of Padu can be realised.
