THE number of people updating their information on the Central Database Hub (Padu) has surged as the deadline for registration approaches, which is today.

Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said up to 11.59pm on Friday, more than 9.8 million citizens had updated their information.

He said there was an increase of nearly 600,000 registrations and updates within 24 hours.

“The registration and updating rate for Padu have spiked over the past two days, possibly due to growing awareness and concerns on missing out.

“It is not too late to register. Visit www.padu.gov.my or go to a Padu counter in your area,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

On Jan 2, Padu was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as a database recording information on demographics, education, employment, income, commitments and assistance received by the people.

It aims to serve as the nation’s primary database for periodic analytics and digitisation, minimising waste, formulating policies and decision-making processes based on data analysis, and maintaining fiscal balance through targeted policy implementation.

Rafizi had said that the subsidy targeting would rely on information in Padu.

The Padu Facebook page said Selangor was the state with the highest number of updates totaling 1.56 million, followed by Johor at 1.10 million, Perak at about 980,000, Sarawak at 900,000, Sabah at 830,000 and Kedah at 760,000.

Kelantan, meanwhile, had about 760,000 updates; Kuala Lumpur 570,000; Penang 560,000; Pahang 550,000, Terengganu 460,000; Negri Sembilan 420,000; Melaka 300,000, Perlis 110,000; Putrajaya 300,000; and, Labuan 200,000.
