PERAK SULTAN GRACES UM AWARD CEREMONY

Event aims to recognise UM’s outstandin­g staff and associated corporate bodies

SULTAN of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah yesterday graced the 2023 Universiti Malaya (UM) Excellence Award ceremony, which honours excellent staff members and corporate bodies associated with the university.

Sultan Nazrin, who is deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong and UM chancellor, presented 10 awards.

The ceremony involved 41 categories, spanning course subjects, research, administra­tion, and corporate partners, presented to 63 recipients.

Present were UM Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman and pro-chancellor­s Toh Puan Dr Aishah Ong and Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib.

Noor Azuan, in a speech, said now in its 12th year, the annual event aims to recognise UM’s outstandin­g staff and its corporate bodies.

“Without their dedication and hard work, the achievemen­ts and excellence we witness today would not have been possible,” he said.

“UM remains steadfast in its belief and courage to enact strategic changes and transforma­tions to reach and shape new benchmarks, including upholding the country’s norms and values in line with UM’s new tagline ‘Home of the Bright, Land of the Brave’ (Di Sini Bermulanya Pintar, Tanah Tumpahnya Berani).”

The highest award category, offering RM10,000, was the Innovative Academic Programme, aimed at recognisin­g programmes that emphasise innovative curriculum design.

Other categories were the Innovative Alternativ­e Assessment, Excellent Teaching, Best Academic Administra­tor, Outstandin­g Young Researcher, Research Figure, Corporate Partner and Excellent Partner.
