PAKATAN Harapan (PH) candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election Pang Sock Tao yesterday pledged to improve the welfare of youths and women in the constituency.

Pang also said she wanted to continue the legacy of the late Lee Kee Hiong, who held the state seat for three terms.

“I am very grateful as my nomination (for the by-election) has been accepted.

“Starting today, our team, which consists of several component parties representing all races in the unity government, will begin our campaign carefully and with respect (towards other parties).

“If given the mandate, I will continue the development plans and agenda set by the late Lee.

“The welfare of youth and women is also close to my heart and it is among plans and policies (I plan) to be included in my (campaign) manifesto,” she said.

Asked on a clip of her criticising Barisan Nasional (BN) during the 15th General Election, she said the video was an old clip and that the unity government would work hard as a team for the byelection.

“The political landscape is different and a unity government has been established.

“I am a candidate for the unity government, so we will move and work hard as a team throughout the campaign (period),” said Pang.

She is the former press secretary to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

Earlier, Election Commission (EC) returning officer Yuhanas Auree Kamaruddin announced that no nomination forms for the four candidates were rejected.

He added that the commission was pleased that the nomination process, which ended at 10am, had proceeded smoothly.

The by-election, which has been fixed for polling on May 11, was called following the death of Lee, who succumbed to cancer last month.

In the state election last year, Lee polled a majority of 4,119 votes in a four-cornered fight.
