Anwar attends WEF meeting in Saudi Arabia
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to attend a two-day special meeting at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, starting yesterday.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said Anwar was attending the meeting at the invitation of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, who is also the kingdom’s prime minister.
“The prime minister will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.”
The WEF meeting themed “Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development”, which started yesterday, would be attended by heads of state and government, as well as business leaders.
The meeting will discuss issues related to sustainable development energy security, trade and investment, and geopolitics.
Anwar will also take part in a panel session titled “A New Vision for Global Development”.
“Additionally, the WEF programme will include a Joint Regional Strategy Dialogue on the Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council.”
Anwar is expected to deliver the opening remarks at the dialogue in view of Malaysia’s chairmanship of Asean in 2025.
During the working visit, Anwar will also engage with business leaders on opportunities in Malaysia, and meet other heads of states and governments to strengthen ties and enhance cooperation in various fields.
“This working visit will further solidify the longstanding close relations between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, and further strengthen the personal bond of friendship between the leaders.”
