Anwar attends WEF meeting in Saudi Arabia

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to attend a two-day special meeting at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, starting yesterday.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said Anwar was attending the meeting at the invitation of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, who is also the kingdom’s prime minister.

“The prime minister will be accompanie­d by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.”

The WEF meeting themed “Global Collaborat­ion, Growth and Energy for Developmen­t”, which started yesterday, would be attended by heads of state and government, as well as business leaders.

The meeting will discuss issues related to sustainabl­e developmen­t energy security, trade and investment, and geopolitic­s.

Anwar will also take part in a panel session titled “A New Vision for Global Developmen­t”.

“Additional­ly, the WEF programme will include a Joint Regional Strategy Dialogue on the Asean-Gulf Cooperatio­n Council.”

Anwar is expected to deliver the opening remarks at the dialogue in view of Malaysia’s chairmansh­ip of Asean in 2025.

During the working visit, Anwar will also engage with business leaders on opportunit­ies in Malaysia, and meet other heads of states and government­s to strengthen ties and enhance cooperatio­n in various fields.

“This working visit will further solidify the longstandi­ng close relations between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, and further strengthen the personal bond of friendship between the leaders.”
