American pleads guilty to possessing child porn

An American yesterday pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here to an amended charge of possessing child pornograph­y and videos on his laptop two months ago.

David Matthew Frahm, 46, entered the guilty plea before judge Helmi Ghani to the amended charge under Section 10 of the Child Sexual Offences Act 2017 and Section 292(a) of the Penal Code.

The charge carries up to five years’ imprisonme­nt, a fine of not more than RM10,000 or both, and a maximum three-year jail term upon conviction.

According to the amended charge, Frahm was accused of having child pornograph­y material and pornograph­y videos on his laptop at Chogm Villa in Jalan Seri Legenda here.

He committed the offence at 7.10am on Feb 15.

The court fixed May 13 for mitigation and sentencing.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Farhan Aliff Ahmad prosecuted and lawyers Cheow Wee and Alvin Lau represente­d the accused.

On March 5, Frahm pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexually harassing an 11-year-old girl.

He was charged with producing sexual material involving the minor at an apartment in Kuah here at 3.30pm on Feb 1.

It was reported that Frahm had allegedly filmed the girl, who was his neighbour, when she was bathing in her home.

The court also fixed May 13 as the mention date for a separate charge against the accused for overstayin­g.

Frahm was charged with overstayin­g for 1,380 days in the country when he was arrested at the same location on Feb 15.

The charge was framed under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigratio­n Act 1959/63 and is punishable under Section 15(4) of the same act.

It carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 or up to five years’ imprisonme­nt or both upon conviction.
