Proven system helps foreign students flourish in Malaysia

-

abroad has become increasingly popular among students seeking to broaden their horizons and gain a competitive edge in today’s globalised world.

In that regard, Malaysia has prepared well to receive international students and emerged as a leading country in education due to internationally recognised curricula, respected universities and a dedication to academic success.

Studies show that international students are also attracted to other aspects, like culture, a lighter financial commitment and the country’s safety and an excellent education system.

It has been reported that 120,000 students from more than 100 countries flock every year to Malaysia. According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), Malaysia is the world’s No. 11 most popular education destination.

However, there are challenges for foreign students, including adjusting to local cuisine, climate, financial arrangements, healthcare, housing and language.

Failure to adjust to a new environment will cause psychological distress, such as feelings of inferiority, confusion, homesickness, loneliness, anxiety, isolation, low motivation and inability to focus.

Therefore, it is imperative that academic institutions and support services tackle these obstacles and provide resources to enable international students to prosper in their new surroundings.

Malaysia, with its vibrant educational landscape, rich cultural heritage, and fast-growing economy, offers a unique experience to international students seeking to advance their ambitions.

Recognising these challenges, I believe Malaysia will always try to ensure an effective and high-quality higher education experience for international students. More often than not, international students are able to flourish in Malaysia.

Malaysia is doing something right in this matter to be ranked the 11th most popular destination for foreign students.
