ainted in 1907, this oil- oncanvas work was inspired by a profusion of poppies, daisies, zinnia and roses in the garden of the MayrHof in Austria. It is regarded as one of Gustav Klimt’s finest landscapes, with clear allusions to impressionist and pointillist techniques. The star lot of Sotheby’s Impressionist & Modern Art auction is also defined by its square- canvas format and is celebrated for the dazzling intensity of Klimt’s brushwork.
