To Sicily, With Love
Inspired by the romantic soul of Southern Italy, Smeg and Dolce & Gabbana combine their love for home and country by infusing Sicilian tradition and retro designs to form their latest kitchenware collaboration
SMEG and Dolce & Gabbana's kitchen appliances inspired by Sicily sit high on our Christmas wish list
Known for its traditional cuisine and unique culture, Sicily is a place steeped in rich and colourful history. Smeg together with Dolce & Gabbana thus draws inspiration from the little town in Italy and decorates its appliances using symbols intrinsically Sicilian in nature. Glossy golden lemons, an assortment of citrus fruits, prickly pears and bright red cherries are framed in triangular motifs called crocchi; while floral motifs, winding and delicate, curl across the sides of the kitchenware, inspired by the coasts and landscapes of the largest island in the Mediterranean sea. And surrounded by the ornamental friezes and the scenic ruins of the Greek temple of Castor as well as Pollux in the Valley of Temples, is Sicily’s largest active volcano, Mount Etna. And to further pay homage to the Italian spirit, motifs like the ancient symbol trinacria and the Sicilian pastry cartocci also decorate the appliances. Last but not least, stylised acanthus leaves decorate the entirety of the kettle in a myriad of colours.
These decorations are not only reminders of home for Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, but they are also representations of a long-standing heritage. And Smeg rises to the occasion with their small, precious kitchen appliances, all imbued with the heart and soul of Southern Italy and aptly named, ‘Sicily, is my Love’.
Smeg’s expertise in kitchen appliances and D&G’S whimsical designs, is like having a Sicilian memory at the table
