La Risata Ampang

Literally meaning ‘laughter’ in Italian, La Risata in Ampang has kept the locals well-fed and entertained for one-and-a-half decades. Make advance reservations, for the trattoria is never short of diners. The crowd sees an equal mix of family, friends and couples looking for a bit of romance. The antipasti misti, La Risata’s signature appetiser sampler, sees some hits and misses, but the feather-light beef carpaccio makes it worthwhile. We don’t get the buzz surrounding the zuppa di pesce, but the pizzas—light, thin and oh-so delicious—are among the best in town. Pasta lovers should sample the spaghetti con arragosta tossed with generous lobster chunks, garlic, tomato, chilli and olive oil. Huge on flavour, regular patrons happily crown it the big winner. Real tiramisu—not the cakey stuff that stands unsupported—and gelato are the right way to finish off an authentic Italian meal at this iconic Ampang eatery.
