What follows after purchasing new coffee table? Style it up, of course! (Refer to page 76 for our recommendations if you are looking for one...)
TRY A TRAY
An instant and fail-proof method of adding a layer of intrigue to your ordinary-looking coffee table is to use a tray. It works especially well when placed on larger tables as it helps to break up the surface. Plus, it provides a good storage space to contain and organise items that may otherwiseot be scattered on the table top, susuch as books, toys, flowers, coasters and eveneve a cocktail or two.
CREACREATE CONTRAST
Similar to arranging a fireplace mantel or a bobookshelf, the trick to setting up a visuavisually interesting coffee table is to create contrast. One way of doing it is to use accessoriesa of varying heights and scale. Tthis will keep items from feeling disjoindisjointed. Or try pairing the opposites: old witwith new, round with square, smooth with rorough, shiny with dull. An extra tip: use a fewfe large, pretty art books to make a stack to elevate items that seem too small or too short.
ADD PERSONALITY
Every part of your house, including your coffee table, can be a good spot to showcase your style and personality. Pick several of your favourite objects to create a vignette that reflects you and your passion. It may be titles you are currently reading, decor pieces sourced from your trips to the flea markets or glass bottles you have been collecting over the years. More often than not, these are the things that will spark curiosity and conversation.
ORGANIC DETAILS
The most common and probably the most effective coffee table decoration is a pot of flowers, succulents or herbs. Be it a single, large or multiple smaller arrangements, these organic elements will undoubtedly provide a lively, colourful focal point to the entire space. Other popular centrepiece alternatives are terrariums or even a simple large candle housed in a glass hurricane.
MODERATION IN MANAGEMENT
Last but not least, do not overdo it. As with anything, moderation is the key to a well-styled coffee table. It is not necessary to cover the table top with all kinds of display to make it seem thoughtful. After all, a coffee table should have space for cups of coffee.
