12 items listed under price controlled scheme in Labuan
LABUAN: Twelve food items have been listed under the price controlled scheme for the Federal Territory of Labuan by the Labuan Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism office ( PPDNKK) beginning from February 14 until 25 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festival.
The listed items are live chicken, standard chicken, super chicken, chicken egg grade A, chicken egg grade B, chicken egg grade C, imported round cabbage, garlic, white pomfret, l arge banana prawn, pork belly and pork (lean and fat).
The retail price per kilo or per unit for the respective items are RM6.30, RM9.30, RM9.50, 41 sen, 40 sen, 39 sen, RM3.50, RM6.50, RM39, RM24, RM23 and RM20.
The wholesale price per kilo or per unit for the respective items are RM5.60, RM8.30, RM8.50, 39 sen, 38 sen, 37 sen, RM3, RM5.50, RM34, RM22, RM21 and RM18.
Acting director of PPDNKK Labuan, Aslani Dabi, said yesterday that PPDNKK Labuan officers would be monitoring the prices of the listed items at the markets during the specified period as part of their initiative to protect consumers from excessive profiteering by traders during the festive season.
“The traders must adhere to the rules and observe business ethics when conducting their business, while consumers must know their responsibilities and rights,” he said during the launch of the price control scheme at Utama Jaya Supermarket here yesterday.
He added that should consumers find any profiteering activity from the traders during the period, they could lodge a report to PPDNKK at toll free number: 1-800-886-800, email: e-aduan@kpdnkk.gov.my, SMS to 15888 by typing “KPDNKK ADUAN <report detail>” or by visiting the PPDNKK office here.
Meanwhile, Aslani disclosed that six cases have been reported under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 for not displaying price tags for their goods and for not using valid measurement tools, while PPDNKK Labuan has issued a notice to a shop owner here under the Act.
Present to launch the price control scheme were Labuan member of parliament, Datuk Rozman Isli, Labuan Malay Entrepreneurs Chamber chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Alias Abdul Rahman and Labuan Consumer Movement Council chairperson Hajah Fauziah Datuk Mohd Din.
