Chegubard, Adam Adli, eight others ordered to enter defence

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court here yesterday ordered former Rembau PKR chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin, activist Adam Adli Abdul Halim and eight others to enter their defence on charges of participating in an illegal assembly and for rioting at Jalan Parlimen here two years ago.

Judge Abdul Rashid Daud made the order after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing a prima facie case against them.

The court set three days -- Jan 26 and 27 and March 10 next year -- for them to do so.

Badrul Hisham or better known as Chegubard, 37, Adam Adli, 27, Muhammad Safwan Anang@ Talib , 26, who is executive director of Lensa Anak Muda Malaysia (Lensa) and seven others were charged with participating in the assembly with intention to cause public nuisance at Jalan Parlimen between 9.15 am and 11.25 am on June 24, 2013.

The seven others are Norazimah Mohamad Nor, Ahmad Shauqie Abdul Aziz, Ahmad Syukri Che Ab Razab, Lim Sue Pei, Edy Noor Reduan, Md Sani Md Shah and Ekhsan Bukharee Badarul Hisham.

The are charged under Section 143 of the Penal Code which carries an imprisonment for up to six months, or fine, or both, if found guilty.

On the second count, they were charged with rioting at a road junction leading to the Parliament building at 11.25 am on the same day.

The charge, made under Section 147 of the Penal Code, carries an imprisonment for up to two years or fine or both, if found guilty.

Five others -- Muhammad Aiman Hakim Zainal, Annie Ooi Siew Lan, Mah Chee Hoe, Tong Chan Sang and Abdullah Hassan -- were also ordered by the court to enter their defence on a charge of participating in the same asseembly.

They were among 33 individuals who were charged with participating in the illegal assembly.

Eighteen others were acquitted and discharged by the court without calling for their defence.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Suhaimi Ibrahim, while lawyers Michelle Yesudas and Mohd Radzlan Jalaludin represented the accused. - Bernama
