Ministry to monitor participants of govt sponsored programs
KOTA KINABALU: The Ministry of Community Development and Consumer Affairs will monitor participants of government sponsored programs in the state.
“We do not want those participating in the courses just to get items, and then sell them. Many of the 1Azam participants do not succeed because most of them who take part in the program are not really interested in the course but only want to get items and then sell them at a very cheap price.
“In the end, the people that buy the items are able to start their business and the participants remain poor. Many attend various different courses but do not become successful entrepreneurs. This is the reason why the government efforts to end poverty is not successful because the participants do not really want to start up a business,” said its minister, Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid.
She said this when launching the presentation of aid to participants of the baking and bun making 1Azam course at R & R Cake House here yesterday.
One hundred and twenty-five women from throughout Sabah received a set of toaster oven and stand mixer each to help in their business start-up.
“Therefore in 2016, our ministry along with all other ministries involved will be doing a monitoring. After the course, we will monitor participants annually at each level to see the problems encountered by them,” said Jainab.
She added that the government would work with each district officer and other relevant government bodies like Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) to provide business platforms and outlets for the aspiring entrepreneurs.
The ministry will also, among other efforts, look into raising participants’ knowledge on financial management and guide them to acquire financial assistance from relevant channels so they would not fall prey to loan sharks.
