Felda United off to good start

KUALA LUMPUR: Felda United kicked off to a good start in the Super League 2016 challenge with a comfortabl­e 2-0 win over 2015 Premier League champions, Kedah, at Tun Abdul Razak Stadium in Jengka, Pahang.

The victory also saw ‘The Fighters’ squad coached by Irfan Bakti taking the lead in the Super League table with three points.

Their two goals were contribute­d by import players Lutfulla Turaev from Uzbekistan in the 64th minute and Zah Rahan Krangar from Liberia who scored through a penalty four minutes later.

The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) also scored three points after defeating Sarawak 1-0 at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka.

The goal was scored by Ali Ashfaq in the 76th minute.

Terengganu FC

took advantage of playing on home turf to defeat Penang 1-0, thanks to Argentinia­n Gustavo Lopez who netted the ball in the 24th minute.

At Stadium Darul Makmur in Kuantan, a relatively young line-up from Pahang FC fought back in the last minute to draw 2-2 with Terengganu FC II.

Slovenian striker Dalibor Volas scored the first goal for the Tok Gajah squad in the 19th minute, while German Ezequiel Pacheco Gonzalez of Argentina scored the equaliser in the 90th minute.

The visiting team, which was formerly known as T-Team, scored through Muhammad Sapawi Rasid in the 71st minute and and former national under23 squad player Izzaq Faris Ramlan, in the 88th minute.

The home side were forced to play with 10 men from the 32nd minute, as defender Mohd Saiful Nizam Miswan was sent off by referee S. Sittharaja­nan after

being shown a second yellow card.

Meanwhile, Perak failed to take home advantage as they settled for a goalless draw against Kelantan at the Perak Stadium in Ipoh.

At the Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium in Larkin, Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) retained the Sultan Ahmad Shah Cup after defeating the Malaysia Cup champions, Selangor 7-6 in a penalty shoot-out.

Both teams tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time.

Singaporea­n Hariss Harun put the Southern Tigers squad in the lead in the 44th minute before Selangor scored an equaliser through Mohd Haf iz Kamal in the 60th minute. - Bernama

JDT beat Selangor to lift Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Cup

JOHOR BAHARU: Last season’s Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) emerged the winner for the second consecutiv­e year of the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Cup after defeating Selangor 7-6 in a penalty shootout, after playing to a 1-1 draw here Saturday night.

JDT first won the cup last year when they subdued Pahang 2-0.

The squad under coach Mario Gomez clinched their victory via penalty kicks converted by Safiq Rahim, Mohd Nazrin Mohd Nawi, Hariss Harun, Mohd Amirul Hadi Zainal, Marcos Antonio, Mohd Aidil Zafuan Abd Razak and S.Kunanlan at Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium in Larkin.

Earlier, both teams were tied 1-1, despite six minutes of additional time.

In the first half, both sides were on the offensive to find their first goal before the Southern Tigers’ midfielder, Hariss Harun opened the score at the last minute of the first half from a corner taken by team captain, Safiq.

In the second half, Mohd Hafiz Kamal slotted in the equaliser for Selangor at the 60th minute and the score remained until the final whistle.

The victory enabled the Southern Tigers to lift the 2016 Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Cup which was presented by the Football Associatio­n of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president Datuk Mokhtar Ahmad.

The match was witnessed by almost 25,000 fans.

The 2013 and 2012 Charity Cup champions were the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and The Red Warriors (Kelantan) respective­ly. - Bernama
