Grateful chamber reiterates strong support for govt

KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) has reiterated its strong support for the government, especially the Sabah state government.

KKCCCI president, Datuk Michael Lui Yen Sang, said the chamber was grateful for the continuous support rendered by the state government towards the developmen­t and growth of Chinese schools, temples, cultural and welfare activities.

“We are very touched with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman’s reassuranc­e that the state government will continue to disburse this financial aid,” he said.

Lui also thanked Musa for approving the applicatio­n for the extension of lease terms for 73 industrial lots in Kolombong submitted through the chamber on behalf of the owners.

“We are indeed very grateful that the Chief Minister is very concerned and listens to the wishes and appeal from the Chinese community, especially on the appointmen­t of Datuk Yeo Boon Hai as the first Chinese Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City,” Lui said during KKCCCI’s Chinese New Year celebratio­n here on Sunday.

He also noted that Musa, in his Chinese New Year message, had said that the state government was aware of the issues raised by the chambers of commerce and other groups from time to time.

“We welcome the Chief Minister’s statement that the state government is doing its best to meet the requests and suggestion­s to address the issues affecting the livelihood of the people as part of the government’s effort to find workable solutions and facilitate economic growth.”

Lui said, KKCCCI would continue to play its role as a bridge to facilitate communicat­ion between the government and the Chinese community, so as to carry out activities beneficial to the people and help build a prosperous nation.

He said, the chamber would further strengthen support, especially from the Chinese community, towards the government’s policies, and unite with the government to face the impacts of the current challenges.

Lui said, KKCCCI would continue to voice the people’s livelihood problems, issues pertaining to government policies and administra­tive deviations.

“At the same time, we will propose ways and positive corrective measures to the government and relevant authoritie­s. We hope the government, especially the Chief Minister, will understand our position in serving the community, and continue to assist us in resolving the problems and meeting the needs of the people.”

Also present at the event were Minister of Special Tasks, Datuk Teo Chee Kang, Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah, Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Chen Peijie, Federation of Chinese Associatio­ns Sabah (FCAS) president, Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. T.C. Goh, Sabah Dong Zong president, Tan Sri Andrew Liew Sui Fatt, KKCCCI life honorary president, Datuk John Su, deputy president Dr. Ling Hie Sing, vice president, Datuk William Chu and Luyang assemblyma­n, Hiew King Cheu.
