Purported gangster forces man to ‘lend’ him money

SIBU: A middle-aged man paid RM670 after receiving numerous threatenin­g calls from a man who claimed to be a prominent gangster.

His son, who operates a coffee shop in town, received a call from a man who introduced himself as Lee Long’ on Saturday.

The son was told to meet `Lee Long’ to talk about a business.

He told the caller he was not free and hung up.

He later received numerous telephone calls from the same number but he did not pick them up.

His father then received a phone call from another number and the caller this time claimed to be `Ang Ho’.

The father was told to make 40 waffles and send them to the home of the caller’s boss (Lee Long) and collect the money for the order.

But he did not send the food as he did not provide delivery service.

He received another call from Ang Ho’ later. He said the caller demanded RM670 from him.

When he refused to lend ‘Ang Ho’ the money, he received numerous threatenin­g calls purportedl­y from `Ang Ho’.

Fearing for the safety of his son, he deposited RM670 to a bank account given by the caller.

He lodged a police report on Sunday.

Acting on the report, police tried to reach the callers but to no avail.

In a similar case, a Kampua stall owner claimed he received a prank call ordering for noodles.

The man in his 30s received the call when he was about to close for business at Workshop Road at 3pm on Saturday.

He was told to make 25 packets of Kampua and send them to Kampung Dato.

When he had prepared about 10 packets of Kampua, he received another call from the same man.

The stall owner said the caller demanded RM800 and would pay him back when he sent the noodles over to him.
