Bumburing to meet PCS leaders before deciding on offer

KOTA KINABALU: Tamparuli assemblyman Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred M Bumburing will be meeting with the leaders of Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) before making his decision on their invitation to him to lead the party.

Bumburing in a statement yesterday said that this is because the task of leading a party is a huge responsibility.

“I sincerely thank the leaders of PCS for offering the helm of the party to me. I consider it a great honour but fully realize that it is a very heavy responsibility in view of the current situation in the country, and in particular in Sabah.

“I have to do some deep soul searching, discernment and discussion with my family and supporters before making any decision.

“To me whoever leads the party is not of paramount importance as long as the struggle and vision are in tandem with the aspirations of the people of Sabah who, by and large, wish to see Malaysia, as a nation, become as promised when she obtained independence in 1963,” he said.

The Angkatan Perubahan Sabah (APS) president pointed out that in order for Malaysia to move forward as a united and progressive nation, along with other contemporary countries, justice, equality and real freedom of movement and mind must prevail.

He is of the opinion that the situation in the country today portrays a broken promise.

The people are more politically, economically, socially and religiously fractured than before, he claimed, adding that it cannot be denied that there is a deep sense of dismay among the people because of the rising cost of living, charges of corruption among those in power, passing of draconian laws, curbing freedom of expression and rising religious extremism.

“I am aware that the leaders and the members of PCS are bonded together by the hope and wish for a country and state in which all people are proud to be citizens. The road ahead is not a smooth one but to stay idle and subject oneself to the situation is not an option.

“I will meet the present leaders of PCS before I make my decision,” he reiterated.

Bumburing was given the mandate by Parti Cinta Sabah’s (PCS) top leaders to helm the party during its Supreme Council meeting on Sunday.

PCS secretary general Mozes Iking in a press release revealed that it is up to Bumburing to decide when he will take up the offer from the party.

The press release signed by Iking read, “At the meeting of Parti Cinta Sabah’s Supreme Council at its registered office on Sunday, February 14, it was agreed by the governing body to invite Tamparuli assemblyman Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred M Bumburing to lead the party as and when he is ready to.”

The meeting was chaired by PCS president Dr. Nicholas James Guntobon. Parti Cinta Sabah was registered on August 28, 2013.

Rumours have been rife that Bumburing will be leading PCS into the 14th general election. The senior politician in Sabah had contested on a PKR ticket in the 13th general election.
