100 pupils receive financial aid from bank
TAMBUNAN: A total of 100 students from 26 primary schools here were selected to receive financial assistance from Affin Bank through the Jom Back To School program held at Pisompuruan Square, yesterday.
Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Development Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan delivered the aid.
In his speech when opening the program, he said the government’s noble efforts should be supported by all parties to prove that the government was sensitive to the needs of the people, especially to the development of education for children in the rural areas.
At the same time he urged parents to focus on the future of their children by providing education to them because the family future depended on the success of their children in education.
“Parents should encourage children to continue to be successful, not only in education but in their life so as to have a better career in the future,” he said.
Pairin also praised the steps taken by Affin Bank to come forward to help students whose parents could less afford, and with this aid, it could at least ease the burden of parents to buy school supplies.
Pairin, who is also Keningau member of parliament, also commended the District Education Office for creating a record of excellence in the Primary School Assessment Test (UPSR) last year and he believed that with encouragement, the feat could be repeated this year.
He also hoped that the assistance from the private sector, particularly Affin Bank, would continue for the future development of education of rural students, especially those who are less fortunate.
Present at the program were District Officer Thomas Logijin, district education officer Haji Kaipin Haji Rusmin, Affin Bank manager Wong Huong Huong, District Chief OKK Philip Datuk Kitingan, Tambunan Community Development leader Severius Bruno, heads of state and federal departments, community leaders, teachers and parents.
