-

BALIK PULAU: A security guard who was charged with murdering a Form Five female student last October, was yesterday charged at the Balik Pulau Magistrate’s Court here with raping her.

Tarmizi Yaakob, 20, is alleged to have raped the teenager, who was his girlfriend, at 7.30am in Teluk Kumbar near here on Oct 25 last year.

He was charged under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, if convicted.

However, no plea was recorded from Tarmizi, who only listened with his head bowed down when the charge was read out to him by a court interpreter before Magistrate Nur Azzuin Moati.

The court has fixed March 22 for mention of the case.

Deputy Public Prosecutor J.G. Kaameini appeared for the prosecution.

Meanwhile, Nur Azzuin also fixed March 22 for mention of the murder case faced by Tarmizi.

The court fixed the date after Deputy Public Prosecutor Shafiq Mahadi had applied for a new date for the mention, to transfer the case to the High Court.

In the proceeding, Shafiq also informed the court that the post-mortem report had been completed.

On Nov 6 last year, Tarmizi appeared in the same court on a charge of murdering the girl at the same place between 7.30am and 7.30pm on Oct 25, 2015.

The accused, who was unrepresented, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence, if convicted. - Bernama
